Understanding WordPress Posts

WordPress posts are important to keep your audience up-to-date with your business’ news. Posts are commonly used for news or blog articles and are usually displayed on a news or blog page within your website. Your website’s news or blog page will contain a number of articles. Each of these articles is a separate post which has been created within the WordPress administrative screen.

Creating a new post

Once you have successfully logged into your WordPress website you will be presented with the administrative screen. On the left side, you’ll see the Posts tab. You can either hover your mouse over the Posts tab or click on it to reveal the sub-menu within this tab.

  1. Click on the ‘Add New’ link.
  2. You will now see the ‘Add New Post’ page which will allow you to create a new post.
  3. At the top of the page you’ll see an input box prompting you to ‘Enter title here’. This is where you will type in the title of the post.
  4. Below the title input box you’ll see a larger input box. This is where you will write the main text body for the post. You can type directly into this area or you can paste from a Word document etc. Please ensure that the ‘Visual’ tab is selected at the top right corner of this input box.
  5. You may have the option of adding your post into a category or using tags. Categories and tags allow your posts to be sorted by your audience on your website’s news or blog page.
  6. Once you have added in your title and text body you can now ‘Publish’ your post so that it will be visible on your website. If you’d prefer not to make the post visible on your website at this stage you can simply ‘Save Draft’ instead and return to publish the post at a future date.
